6 Quick Tips To Glam Up Your Holiday Table

It’s the season for celebrating—and all great festivities start with a gorgeous table. Need some inspiration? We partnered with online interior design service Decorist to come up with sophisticated (but simple!) ideas. Our creation: a vintage-y winter wonderland display that works beautifully for all kinds of bashes: Thanksgiving brunch, holiday dinner with friends, or a glittery New Year’s Eve party. Try these styling tricks and product picks to dress up your own table. (Want design ideas for full rooms? Check out all Decorist for Bed Bath & Beyond services right here.)

  1. Start with a blank slate.

A white tabletop is an ideal backdrop—it allows your beautiful linens, florals, and dishes to pop. We prefer a linen or cotton tablecloth, but any solid white material or finish will do.

  1. Layer in rich colors.

Jewel-tone hues lend a moody winter vibe. Play up the seasonal feel with Velvet placemats and napkins in mauve and pink hues.

  1. Mix your metals.

We gave this display a dynamic look with vintage brass candlesticks, gold bulb ornaments in a variety of finishes, hammered brass utensils, and gold-colored napkin rings with an antiqued finish.

  1. Add some elegance.

Any sit-down dinner is worthy of fine china, but it’s especially appropriate during the holidays—dressy plates and bowls help your table feel polished. We used Marchesa by Lenox’s Gilded Pearl Dinnerware,: chic white bone china with hand-applied enamel and gold banding.

  1. Go big with blooms.

Turn florals into a focal point by filling brass vessels or family heirlooms with an abundance of finds from your local flower market or even the grocery store. We used a combination of roses, dark berries, pomegranates, greenery, and grapes for a dreamy, forest-like feel.

  1. Put your pastries on a pedestal (or two).

Nothing tops off a celebratory tablescape like a smattering of decadent desserts. No need to bake—just buy an assortment (we chose whoopie pies, coconut cake and macarons) and arrange them on beautiful cake plates.
