The Ultimate Turkey Toolkit
Here are the Thanksgiving tools you need to master the art of cooking your bird.
Thanksgiving is here, and if you’re responsible for the turkey, we’ve no doubt you’re aware of what a big responsibility you have. The Thanksgiving turkey is nothing short of iconic, and you definitely want to make sure you get it right. We’re here to help. Or, more specifically, one of our head buyers, Jack, is here to help. Here are some of his Thanksgiving superheroes.
Stainless Steel Baster Set
A juicy turkey is the best kind of turkey. This three-piece set, which includes a baster, an injector needle, and a cleaning brush, helps you marinate and glaze while the turkey is roasting. Everything is top-rack dishwasher-safe, and the set is heat-resistant up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Making your own brine is great, but it can also be intimidating. We totally won’t judge (and we definitely won’t tell) if you use a brining kit. Jack recommends these, from Turkey Perfect, which come with the brine mix, brine bag, and instructions on how to do it.
Expandable Roasting Rack
Our experts love this item because it expands from 10” to 13” and can fit most roasting pans. It also folds flat for easy storage.
Turkey Lifter Set
Cooking the perfect turkey is only half the battle. You’ve also got to delicately hoist it out of the roaster and onto the serving dish. Make it easy on yourself (minus the whole mess of a situation) and get a set of lifters.
Wireless Remote Cooking Thermometer
If you own a meat thermometer, you already know how life-changing it is. It takes the guesswork out of cooking, allowing you to cook your meat to a perfect, safe temperature every time. This one does all of that, in addition to having a remote display, so you can tend to other items while your turkey cooks.
Good sharp knives can be the difference between having an easy time cooking and a difficult one. Make sure yours are in good shape by keeping a sharpener at home! This one works on both straight and serrated knives–you’ll carve your bird with ease.
What’s better than a turkey? A fried turkey, obviously. This electric fryer can hold up to a 22-pound turkey and uses a third less oil than a traditional fryer.
Silicone Pressure Cooker Roasting Rack
If you’re going the pressure cooker or slow cooker route, we highly recommend a silicone rack. This one fits perfectly inside, and its open design means that air circulates around the food for even cooking. It also keeps your turkey separate from fat and liquid, so it’s healthier, too.
