Easy Party Churros for Cinco de Mayo


Churros on Cinco de Mayo? Muchas gracias! This sweet treat is easy to make, and a fun way to get kids involved in the fiesta. And if you want a margarita on the side (sounds good to us), we’ve got a recipe that’ll make you kick off your shoes.


Overview

  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: About 7 churros

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup butter, plus 1/4 cup for dipping
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For Churros Decoration

  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Combine water, butter, and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Stir in flour, and mix until the batter thickens into sticky dough. Remove from heat, transfer dough to a bowl, and let cool.
  2. Beat eggs into dough, stirring consistently, until smooth. Spoon into a piping bag fitted with a star point nozzle. Squeeze in straight lines on baking sheet to shape churros. Use scissors to cut ends.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from oven, and let cool.
  4. Melt butter, and set aside in bowl. Mix cinnamon and granulated sugar in separate bowl. Dip each churro in melted butter, and roll in cinnamon sugar mixture using tongs (or hands!).
  5. For churros decoration, melt chocolate chips and heavy cream; set aside in bowl. Pour sprinkles into a separate bowl. Dip one end of each churro into chocolate and sprinkles. Serve, and enjoy!
