Top Secret! Sneaky-Light…Super-Rich Flourless Brownies Recipe

These lightened-up yet moist and fudgy brownies are sure to have everyone guessing. The so-surprising secret ingredient? Pureed black beans.  No, they won’t be able to taste them!  Yes, they give these brownies a dense and decadent finish…while mini chocolate chips really ramp up the yum factor.


  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: Makes 16 brownies


  • 15 oz can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional confectioner’s sugar for garnish


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat an 8 x 8-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. Place beans, sugar, cocoa powder, butter, eggs, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract in the bowl of a food processor; process on high for several minutes, until completely smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl several times. Add mini chocolate chips; pulse until just combined.
  3. Spoon batter into pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool in the pan. Cut into 16 even squares and garnish with sifted confectioner’s sugar.
