Wilton Sour Cream Cake Doughnuts

Sunday brunch isn’t complete without something sweet. These sour cream cake donuts are an elevated take on the traditional treat from your local coffee shop or bakery. Decorate them together with different toppings for a fun activity. Doughnot knock it til’ you’ve tried it.


  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: Makes about 20 doughnuts


For Doughnut:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 Tablespoons butter, melted

For Decorating:

  • Chocolate Doughnut Glaze
  • Vanilla Doughnut Glaze
  • Strawberry Doughnut Glaze
  • Sprinkles
  • Toasted Coconut
  • Confectioners’ sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Spray pan with vegetable pan spray.
  2. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda and nutmeg. In medium bowl, whisk together sour cream, eggs and butter. Add sour cream mixture to flour mixture; stir until just combined. Fill each donut cup approximately 2/3 full.
  3. Bake 8-10 minutes or until tops of doughnuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan on cooling grid 5 minutes. Remove from pan. Finish doughnuts with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry glaze. Sprinkle with rainbow or chocolate jimmies, toasted coconut or powdered sugars. Doughnuts are best served fresh.
